Welcome to More Bad Ideas
Hi, I’m Jason Keath, and I write about creativity, marketing, advertising, art, and culture.
I believe in starting with bad ideas. I believe in art. And I think you should be the cactus in a world of flowers.
MBI is a place for sharing inspiration, culture, strategy, and anything creative that I think you will love.
I’ve always found art to be wonderful and easy while I find people to be mostly confusing and difficult (It’s not you, it’s me). Changing my major to art in college, was one of the best decisions I ever made. Creating for the sake of it just made sense. I got diagnosed with autism late in life — which explains SO… MANY… THINGS — and a big part of my journey is navigating that. So here’s to more art and creativity in the world and getting better at working with other people.
My goals for MBI are simple:
Help you with new ideas, make you think, encourage you to create more art
Make myself think
Have unique discussions about the culture and trends that lead to great work
Get to know more interesting people (you maybe, or your smart friends?)
Create a space on the web that represents more of what I used to love about the internet (remember Geocities? and Usenet?) where smart, creative people shared inspiring ideas
And, just on the off chance you want to know more about my journey, here’s some of the highlights:
I have a BFA in design and photography
I was born in the south (rural NC) to a family of northerners and somehow I am the only one without a southern accent
NYC is my safe space
I love board games (the good ones at least - not Monopoly)
(I overuse parentheticals)
Racket sports are the best sports — yes, even pickleball
I’m co-founder of Social Fresh, a creative strategy agency specializing in research, marketing strategy, and performance creative (we also produce conferences)
We’ve hosted over 30 conferences at Social Fresh on social media and marketing trends
My favorite city is Florence, Italy (red wine, good food/culture, walkable)
I’m a creativity keynote speaker and I talk to business audiences about my Bad Idea Method, Art vs. AI, and better brainstorming
I’m publishing my first book, The Case for More Bad Ideas, my counterintuitive guide to creativity (manuscript complete, currently working through with beta readers, sign up here if you want to beta read)
More Bad Ideas is for anyone, but probably most relevant for brand and marketing professionals who want to stay informed on culture, trends, and new ideas. No homework assignments here, just vibes.
